Dorothy Theresa Donegan
Dorothy Theresa Donegan, age 94, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 24, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Fernandina Beach, FL. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the youngest of three children born to the late Joseph Francis DeLullo, Sr. and Anne Guinane DeLullo. In the mid 1940s while visiting the Chamberlain Hotel in New York, NY, she met a young Army Air Corps pilot, James J. Donegan Jr. They would marry on November 20, 1948 and make their home in Hampton, VA. Her husband began a long career in the Aerospace Industry with NASA that moved the Donegan’s to the Greenbelt, MD area. Mrs. Donegan remained at home raising their children and supporting their childhood activities. She volunteered in the sodality at their church and provided freshly ironed linens and other appointments for the altar. Her husband passed away in January of 1980. Mrs. Donegan leaves behind, their children, Kathleen “Kathy” Spicer and her husband, George of Catonsville, MD, James T. “Terry” Donegan and his wife, Mirza of Gaithersburg, MD, Gerald J. “Jerry” Donegan, also of Gaithersburg, MD, Deirdre Willette and her husband, Mark of Fernandina Beach, FL, her sister, Marie McDonald, Philadelphia, PA, six grandchildren, George Spicer, Laura, Spicer, James Spicer, Gabrielle Morris, Matt Willette, Dan Willette and five great grandchildren, Tucker, Reed, Grayson, Kadence and Logan. Her family will receive family and friends at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., W., Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. and at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, MD on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Monsignor Essex, Celebrant. Mrs. Donegan will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the Chesapeake Room at the Leisure World Club House from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Fragile X Foundation, 2100 M St. NW, Suite 170, Box 302, Washington, DC 20037 – 1233.
